Salish spent the whole day in the school football field with her friends. It was a family event with both adults and kids but they split up into groups where the kids where on opposing teams to the adults. While this was going on, a spectator might be inclined to think that an age based competition was in progress. However, they were just seeing how different measurements have changed over time and were not necessarily competing too hard against each other.
Some of the competitions included tug of war, sack races, there was a trophy challenge, and a bouncy house. The whole group was in the field until after sundown and the field lights were on near the end of the night. The bleachers mostly empty, and nobody rushing to kick them out of the park, or off of the football field.
The video had some hints related to other videos on the profile. Mostly, and kind of obvious is the large inflatable ball, the free use of the field, and the tug of war. This brings up the value of school in America compared to the measurements done at home in other countries. At some point, the US had over 8,000 colleges and universities for only 50 states and less than 25 major or international cities.
Many jobs in the USA are considered to require a high school diploma only or less than a high school diploma such as 10th grade. With more parents working from home and online school being readily available, sending kids to school for 8 hours per day seems like a questionable practice. Staying in college until almost 32 years old before applying for a first job also seems awkward in todays environment of independence and fast paced innovation.
The video really brings home the concept of the future, learning, sharing, and spending time with family. An empty school, an empty football field, free coffee at the school, and people stopping by to play hide in seek. The weird question is who gets the keys and what does everyone else do that wants to stop by and visit?
